Safeguards

GCAP is a Category “A” project under the World Bank classification, and is obliged to take all safeguard issues that are triggered very seriously. Indeed, all the World Bank safeguard policies, except OP 4.10, which deals with indigenous people, have been triggered. All sub-projects are being monitored to ensure that environmental and social issues are dealt with speedily.

GCAP, in collaboration with PPRSD and EPA, has organized training workshops in environmental safeguards for grantees and their outgrowers. Grantees have been taken through the process of preparing Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and acquiring EPA permits.
