Sustainable Development of Enterprises in Agriculture: A one year comprehensive & practical training program
Invites prospective and practicing small-scale farmers to apply for the 2018 12-month training programme in sustainable agriculture.
The training is essentially experiential and hands-on designed to empower young and energetic Ghanaians to pursue farming as a business to enhance the growth of the food industry while protecting the environment.
This training is intended to sensitize and assist youth and women, especially those in or from the rural areas or farming communities, to adopt agriculture as viable and dignified occupation.
They will be given appropriate and relevant training in:
¬ Plant production
¬ Animal production
In addition to these training schedules, they will be taught basic skills in:
¬ Business Economics and
¬ Marketing including cooperative studies.
Equally relevant to their training programme is the acquisition of:
¬ Basic Technical Skills in carpentry (construction works) and metalwork
¬ Principles of diesel and other simple engines.
Besides, short and specialised training will be given to farmers and other interested individuals in the areas of bee-keeping mushroom, snail, rabbit production etc.
After their training session the participants will be assisted to set up fairly mechanised farms, initially as partners and subsequently as individuals. They will, alternatively, on completion be employed to work on various farming projects so as to gain adequate experience.
Opportunities will be created for further training (specialization). Farming establishments and activities of the graduates will be closely monitored so that proper direction and guidance can be given for a period of time.
To ensure that there is a sustainable production capacity; two units will be set up, an Input Supply Unit and a Marketing Unit. The input supply unit will make sure that farmers (members) will receive adequate input supply at every given time. The marketing unit, besides its core function of purchasing produce from farmers, will also be involved in storage, packaging, distribution and redistribution to various markets.
Aims and objectives:
The over–riding objective of the project is to train young men and women who will be dedicated to Agricultural activities, which will in turn help sustain and maintain adequate food production and food security for the nation.
