JOB OPPORTUNITY: National Long-Term Expert-Maize

For the Green Innovation Center (GIC) Programme of the German Government IN COLLABORATION with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Agriculture and Finance Consultants (AFC), and CDC Consult working to improve the livelihood of smallholder farmers in the rice and maize value chains in Ghana;

Within the framework of the Green Innovation Centre (GIC) project, are looking for:
National Long-Term Expert-Maize

Duration: Until December 2017, with potential extension period of two years or more

Location: Sunyani, frequent travelling in Brong-Ahafo, Ashanti, and to Accra

1. Minimum qualifications and professional experience:
• Academic degree in agriculture or a discipline relevant to the project
• At least 10 years professional experience in the agriculture development sector
• Proven management competences
• Proven work experience in value chain promotion in general at all value chain levels: producers, private sector, government,and NGOs, as well as in improving the framework for value chains and knowledge management
• Work experience in complex projects
• Excellent communication and networking abilities
• Proven relevant professional experience in ICT
• Command of oral and written English

2. Main tasks of National Long-Term Expert:
• Support the elaboration of an innovation strategy for the maize value chain, its implementation and its evaluation and possible adjustment;
• Identify or facilitate the identification of innovation projects and/or training activities to be funded with project funds;
• Support the analysis of economic viability of the innovation projects and economic benefits generated by them in terms of employment, productivity, and income promotion;
• Support grantees in the elaboration of project proposals to be funded as well as the implementation of approved projects;
• Support the administration of the fund for promoting innovations;
• Cooperate with participating private and public organisations;
• Promote innovations in the maize value chain
• Support capacity building of identified service providers to enable them offer adequate services to producers and other actors, including large-scale companies;
• Conduct training of project beneficiariesand project counterparts;
• Carry out activities related to monitoring and evaluation;
• Manage a small team of support staff and consultants
